OKINAWA, JAPAN---Maj. Michael C. Kallai Jr., 34, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2010. Mike was born in Barberton and was a 1994 graduate of Wadsworth High School where he was an accomplished wrestler having placed third in the State his senior year. He went on to the U.S. Air Force Academy where he continued wrestling and qualified for an NCAA Tournament. He graduated from the academy in 1998. He was currently stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa where he was a KC-135 Stratotanker pilot and assigned to the 909th Air Refueling Squadron. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Michael Sr. in June of this year. He is survived by his loving wife Meredith; mother Jennifer; brothers Joe and Zak (Mary); sister Vanessa (Patrick) Williams; grandmothers Ruth Kallai and Irene McCartt; niece Eleanor Williams; numerous aunts and uncles; mother-in-law Susan Lindsey; sister-in-law Devon Lindsey-Ater; and many cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010, 10 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Internment with Full Military Honors at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the funeral home in Mike's name. The money will be donated by Mike's family towards a charity to benefit a children's bike program.
