Margaret Beckett

d. July 5, 2013

MT. PLEASANT, SC----Margaret died on July 5, 2013 of hard work, dancing, feistiness and a life well-loved and lived. She was surrounded at her death by twelve of her family spanning three generations telling Grandma stories and saluting her with red wine. Don't worry Mom, we didn't drink too much. Margaret was born in Leetonia, Ohio to Dominic and Minnie Dalessandro on August 7, 1922. She lived in her beloved Barberton from 1924 until she was moved kicking and screaming to Mount Pleasant, SC in 2000. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years 11 months, Wallace. Margaret was first a Mom and a wife but she also helped bring home the bacon. She worked at Yoder Brothers, the old Latex, as a meat cutter at the old A&P on East Avenue, as a cafeteria lady at Hazelwood Elementary School, as a private daytime baby sitter for several Barbertonians and as a certified childcare assistant at a daycare center. She was very proud of her certification as a child care assistant as Margaret quit school to help her family during the Great Depression. Margaret lovingly cared for her Mom and Dad. Dominic died at 95 and Minnie at 100. Margaret took care of Minnie bathing her and washing her clothes for ten years as Minnie declined with Alzheimer's . Margaret just wasn't satisfied with the way they washed Minnie's clothes at the nursing home. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Denise Ratchford and her partner, Sandy Wellington, of Barberton, Ohio; daughter Chari Sherrill and her husband Dan of North Myrtle Beach, SC; son Randy Beckett and his wife Sandy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter-in-law Cloice Janson of Mt. Pleasant, SC and grandchildren Amanda Beckett, Jason Janson, Brenda "Cissy" Chisam, Aimee Justice and Danielle Vyner all of South Carolina. Margaret has seven great-grandchildren in Mount Pleasant, North Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC. She is survived by brother Don Dalessandro of Belleair FL. Calling Hours will be Friday, July 12, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. at SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 13th, 10 AM at St. Augustine Church, 204-6th St. N.W., Barberton. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Margaret's life with a meal at St. Augustine immediately after the Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Margaret requested memorials be made to The Salvation Army, 560 Wooster Rd W, Barberton OH 44203.
