Margaretta "Rita" A. (Collins) Hurst

Margaretta “Rita” Hurst, 85, passed away unexpectedly on May 23, 2016 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Mom was born on March 6,1931 in Staten Island, New York to John & Agnes Collins and resided in Barberton for the past 65 years.  Mom was very proud of her Irish heritage, her Catholic upbringing and her large family.  Mom worked at Marshall’s Dry Goods for over 35 years and was a member of Prince of Peace Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband Frank of 65 years, her son, Jeffrey Allen; sister’s Helen (Harry) Mahler; Margaret (John) O’Brien; Kathleen (Joseph) O’Brien; Eleanor (Thomas) Spellacy; Agnes (John) Murray and brother, Dennis Mahoney.

She is survived by her children JoAnn Matyasi; Frank Hurst Jr. (Andy Berenyi); Karen (Lee) Hurst; James Hurst; John Hurst; Jennifer (Christopher) Myers; Joel Hurst; Jill (Charles) Clark; Joyce Hurst (Desra Blamble); Jessica Hurst; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law Blanche Mahoney; brother-in-laws Jesse (Myra) Hurst and William Hurst.

Mom enjoyed numerous family vacations, sewing, her Facebook time, emails, letter and card writing, and her daily dose of solitary Scrabble. Ultimately, Mom enjoyed being with her family most of all, weekly dinners, family gatherings, shopping, movies, church, and going out to eat.

She is happily reunited with her sailor and the love of her life, Frank. XOXOXOXOXO

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, 10 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave. Norton Father Robert Jackson celebrant.  Calling Hours Friday from 4 to 8 pm at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton and also on Saturday morning at 9 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
