Marian L. Kindel

June 29, 1956 — August 16, 2022

Barberton

Marian L. Kindel, 66, passed away August 16, 2022. She was born in Akron OH on June 29,1956 to Joseph and Violette (Voris) Kindel and was lovingly raised by her parents, Mark and Mary Dokich, in Barberton. She graduated from Barberton High School and attended the University of Akron.
Marian was afflicted from birth by cerebral palsy, but that did not slow her down. She achieved much, both in her own life and as an example to others. She was active in youth groups growing up and enjoyed a wide range of activities, including bowling and swimming. She was a lover of animals, especially cats. Intelligent and articulate in speech and writing, Marian was past publicity and circulation manager of the Kaleidoscope Magazine, published internationally for the handicapped.  It was a job she said allowed looking at disabilities through the prism of literature and arts.  She also read books aloud on radio for the visually handicapped. Marian enjoyed music and played the harmonica in musical groups, both in church and in concerts.
She continued to be active in social groups throughout her life.
Her greatest legacy is the love and kindness she showed to others, and the encouragement she gave to many, both directly and by example. Marian was a gentle soul, devout in the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Hilary Parish in Fairlawn, and in her youth St. Augustine Church in Barberton. Despite the difficulties she faced, she reflected her love of the Lord into the lives of others and always brightened the corner where she was.
Preceded in death by siblings Laurence, Edward and Julie Ann Kindel, Marian is survived by sisters Marolyn Gusbar of Montoursville PA and Mary Hawkins of Rancho Mirage CA, brothers Joseph (Carolyn) Kindel of Albuquerque NM and Frederick (Patricia) Kindel of Cincinnati OH, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
We would like to acknowledge Marian’s niece, Amy Gusbar, whose considerable efforts over the years helped improve Marian’s quality of life. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Lakewood Cemetery in Akron. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Marian’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
