BARBERTON---Marland Willard "Bill" Briggs, 87, a born-again Christian went to be in the arms of his Savior on Feb. 25, 2013 at Summa Akron City Hospital. He was born in Kewanee, IL and resided for the last 66 years in Barberton. He received his Bachelor of Science & Engineering Degree from the University of Michigan. He was employed with B & W Co. for 41 yrs as a computer programmer, retiring 26 years ago. He was a WWII Navy Lt. Veteran. Bill had over 3500 volunteer hours at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and with the National Park in Alaska. He was an avid world traveler throughout Mexico, Panama Canal, Caribbean Islands, Morocco, Canada, Holland, England, Scotland, Jamaica, and the United States. Bill was very missionary minded with his parents, sisters, children and grandchildren all involved somewhere throughout the world. He was preceded in death by parents, Lester & Mary Briggs (nee Mulholland), brother Ronald, sisters Janet Briggs and Susan Gregory, son-in-law Paul Chema. Survived by his beloved wife for 67 years, Charlotte (nee Riggs), son Michael (Cindy) Briggs of Marion Center, PA., daughters Frances (George) Mikan of Barberton, Noralyn Hughes of Akron, OH., Patsy Chema of Crestline, OH, 9 grandchildren & 11 great-grandchildren, sister Mina Smith of O'Brien, FL. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, 10:00 am at Barberton Evangelical Friends Church, 272 E. Robinson Ave., Barberton, OH Pastor Tom Showalter officiating. NO CALLING HOURS. Private inurnment at O.W.R.N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Barberton Evangelical Friends Church missions fund.
