Mary Ann (Havassy) Riedl

August 17, 1931 — September 5, 2022

Barberton

Mary Ann Riedl (Havassy) was born in Barberton, Ohio on August 17, 1931 and passed away September 5, 2022. She was a life-long resident to the area.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband and dance partner of 47 years, Joseph R. Riedl.  Also preceded in death by her Hungarian parents, Joseph and Mary T (Lazar) Havassy, as well as her three brothers, Joseph, Jim (Gaspar), and Steven.

Survived by children, Christine Hamby (Riedl, Miller) (Gene), and James (Tammie) Riedl and grandchildren, Tim Miller, Jeff Miller (Amber) and Shauna Grimm (Riedl), and great-grandchildren, Joey and Aria Miller, step-grandchildren, Izaak and Katie Johnson.

Mary Ann was a retired Secretary from B & W Construction Co., Copley, for over 25 years.  She was a member of Columbia United Church of Christ, where she served as Secretary for many years to Pastor Ray Seely.  Mary Ann and Joe were choir members for many years also, and belonged to the Welcomer’s adult class.

Memories with Chrissy and Jimmy included family camping and hiking at the Summit County Metro Parks.  Each of the family had earned their own hiking staff as well as over 12 annual badges.  They were the proud parents of an Eagle Scout as well as grandparents to two Eagle Scouts!

Her hobbies included ethnic dancing, polka dancing, square dancing, and swing dancing with her husband, Joe.  She liked to sew and made many of their costumes.  She read more than 2,000 mystery books, since the death of her spouse over 20 years ago.  She also enjoyed helping the family out with driving the grandchildren to sporting events after school.  They enjoyed being treated to McDonalds, and Arby’s and Wendy’s too!

She misses sitting on her front porch with her poodle, Lucky, and talking to her neighbors that walked by.

In recent years, she enjoyed her loving family gatherings at her Norton home.  Due to Alzheimer’s and severe arthritis, she spent her final years in a wheel chair at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Barberton, where she enjoyed making crafts and making new friends.

We will miss her loving kindness, and the fond memories we share.

A Private Service will be held for the family at Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home and burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
