Mary Ellen Szollosi

Mary Ellen Szollosi, age 61, passed away on Monday, January 19, in Conway, South Carolina. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth, strength, and kindness touched all who knew her.

Mary was a lifelong resident of the Norton/New Franklin area. More recently, she moved to South Carolina, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living by the ocean—a place that brought her peace and joy. She proudly retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs after many years of dedicated service.

Mary had a deep love for animals, and her compassion for them reflected the kindness and gentleness she showed to everyone around her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas C. Szollosi, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage; her sisters, Lossie VanCamp and Minnie Rohr; and her brother, Robert “Frankie” Pierson.

She is survived by her son, Jesse (Katie) Wolfe; her sisters, Carroll (Bill Bryan) and Tammy (Dave) Thur; her cherished granddaughters, Kylie, Kaylie, and Kennedy; her beloved goddaughters, Victoriea and Kalei; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Mary will be remembered for her deep love of family, her compassion for animals, her generous heart, and the joy she found in finally living near the ocean. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Calling Hours for Mary will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 3-4 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Memorial Service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Rev. Rod Grabski, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the ASPCA or the Wounded Warrior Project.
