BARBERTON---Michael D. Macko, 63, “Big Mike” passed away on February 26, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He lost a 2-year battle with cancer where he championed the MackoStrong Relay for Life team. Mike was a life-long resident of Barberton where he retired from the City of Barberton with 30 years of service. He was a devout member of St Augustine Church where gave freely of his time volunteering. He spent his retirement managing the Slovak Catholic Sokol Club, of which he was a lifetime member, and working for the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and honorary lifetime member of the Barberton Jaycees. Mike was a selfless man, choosing to spend his free time helping others. The community will miss his big smile and generous heart. Preceded in death by his father, Hilary, father and mother in-law, Robert and Jackie Myers. He is survived by the love of his life, Peggy, married for 44 yrs; children Mick (Danielle), Chris (Renea), Jay (Karen), Bauch (Kara), Matt (Lauren), Beth Sveda (Tony), 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; mother Rosella, sisters Bernadine, Kathleen, Margaret, Jo Ann, Mary Ann and brothers Larry, Greg, Paul, Donald, and Bob and their spouses. A special thank you to 1 West Palliative Care at Summa-Barberton Hospital and Hospice of Summa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Tuesday from 3-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Endowment Trust Fund.
