Orville L. Reed , Jr

d. January 13, 2013

BARBERTON---Orville L. Reed, Jr. passed away peacefully at Pleasant View Health Care Center on January 13, 2013. Orville was born on April 14, 1918 to the late Anna and Orville Reed, Sr. at Peoples Hospital in Akron. Immediately upon graduation from Barberton High School in 1936, Orville walked into the Babcock and Wilcox Co. and worked there until his retirement 53 A½ years later. It would be difficult to find a more grateful or loyal employee. Orville's commitment to his faith was evident in his work with the Diocese of Cleveland, Catholic Charities, the Holy Name Society, Catholic Youth Organization and the Holy Hour program at St. Augustine Catholic Church, to name a few. Perhaps most important to him was the work of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Augustine, serving as its president for almost 50 years. The Barberton and Norton communities were beneficiaries of his endless volunteer hours through the Rotary International, Salvation Army, United Way, the Magical Theatre Company and numerous other organizations. He was a devoted husband and patient father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He and his wife of 68 years, Janet, were seldom seen apart and almost always, holding hands. Their love for one another was a source of inspiration to their children. Orville was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard and Michael; and infant sister Rita Marie. In addition to his wife Janet and brother-in-law John Buchanan; Orville leaves his seven children; Janet (Brian) Cuthbert, Orville (Kathy), Michael (Brenda), Bernard, Susan Ann (Ray) Leach, Patricia (Craig) Chamier and Timothy (Carol); 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank those at Pleasant Pointe Assisted Living and Pleasant View Health Care Center who showed their love for Orville in their respectful and gentle care of him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 18, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW., Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Thursday from 4-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to any one of the organizations mentioned here which were so important to Orville.
