Pauline Luellen (DeBerry) Brode

Born on May 30, 1933 at the family home in Akron OH to Chester and Carol (Cormany) DeBerry. After graduating Garfield High School in 1951, and after working odd jobs for several years, her first real job came with a security clearance and proudly took her to Dayton OH for a clerical position at Wright Patterson AFB.  She soon returned to Akron to marry Walter Brode and, in a few years, became mother to her only child Janet. Later, when ill health brought divorce and death to her husband, Pauline devoted her life to raising their daughter long before single working mothers became a society norm. They grew up together while Pauline worked various jobs with odd shifts, barely scraping by financially throughout Janet’s school years. They moved to Orlando FL in 1972 where both got jobs at Walt Disney World.  After retiring, Pauline came to live with Janet and in 1992 they returned to Ohio where Pauline lived out the rest of her adventures on earth. After illness, Pauline died peacefully at her home on January 30, 2025 with her daughter who loved her the most at her side.

Pauline accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while she was a child attending the South Akron Church of Christ (old location at the corner of Steiner Ave and Getz St). Through good times and bad, she studied scripture, read her Bible and prayed for guidance and forgiveness. Being a woman of faith, she never wavered from her love of Christ and thankfulness for the many blessings He bestowed on our lives. My mom raised me to believe and understand we could not have gotten through those many years of joy and trial without His Divine Guidance.

Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Frances (Willis), Martha (Johnson), Shirley (Metz), nieces Patricia (Caldwell), Vicki (Howe), and nephew Curtis (Collins DeBerry). Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery has taken place. Memorial donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers or any US military veteran’s organization.

Sincere and heartfelt thanks go to the earthly angels on the 2nd and 1st floors of Summa Barberton in their bodily forms of RNs (Bethany, Chloe, Rosi, Autumn, Leeann, Kim, Karen, Jeff, Danielle, Laurie, Kathy), NAs (Linda, Connie, Naudia, Angie, Myriah, Erica, Kilah, Janet), hospice/palliative (Alex and Alexis), also home health care (Dawn, Samantha, and especially Haley – she’ll know why).  Pastor Shannon, another of God’s earthly representatives, provided meaningful prayers at both the hospital bedside and cemetery which were deeply felt and appreciated. Chris Silva and the staff of Silva-Hostetler patiently assisted me at one of the most difficult times of my life. May God bless you all for your tender, loving care that not only eased my mother’s transition but also provided immeasurable comfort to me throughout her homegoing process.
