Reynaldo M. Soberano

May 27, 1943 — July 1, 2016

NEW FRANKLIN---On July 1, 2016 Reynaldo M. Soberano  (Rey)(Kuya Toy) age 73 passed away at the Cleveland Clinic.  The weak heart he had lived with for over 20 years finally gave out but never his spirit and love of all things important.  Rey was born on May 27, 1943 in Manila, Philippines to Marino and Lourdes Maxino Soberano who preceded him in death. He joins his in-laws Gertrude and Edgar Weaver and his nephew Peter Biscocho as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years Carol (Weaver) Soberano and two children Mark (Sarah) Soberano and Gina Soberano Danek. His greatest joy was any time he could be with his nine grandchildren Blaise, Aidan, Owen, Josiah, Phoebe, Stella, and Isaac Soberano who called him Papaw and Colin and Chase Danek who called him Lolo.  Rey also leaves behind his loving sisters Thelma (Rudy) Biscocho, Jocelyn (Dr. Rey Alba) Denoga, and his brother Dr. Michael M. Soberano (Dr. Lissy Santos). Also surviving are sisters-in-law Patricia (Richard) Ferry, Paula (John) McDonough, Donna (Thomas) Ocepek and brother- in-law Dennis Weaver.   Also cherishing their memories of him are his nieces, nephews, cousins and several uncles and aunts who loved him dearly.

Rey earned a degree in Natural Sciences from Ateneo University in Manila and immigrated to the United States where he attended the University of Akron to earn a degree in Industrial Management.  Rey’s work experience included professional engineering positions at Union Metal in Canton Ohio, plant management at Forest City Enterprises, Stow, Ohio engineering at Lindsay Concrete and overseas plant management and development in the Czech Republic.  Rey also worked in New England for North East Concrete and in the Philadelphia area at Old Castle Precast and Fabcon Enterprises.

Rey retired to begin his life of Sudoku, gardening, and traveling with his wife.  His many trips included trips to Greece, Italy, Spain, France, England, and the Philippines, and many trips around the country.  He loved visiting family in California, Florida and Canada and vacationing with family and friends anywhere Carol could drag him.

Rey volunteered throughout his life. He was as an active participant in The Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus of St. Augustine, treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 118 in Manchester, choir member at every church he attended but especially at St. Augustine where he also sang in the funeral choir.  Rey’s quiet trust in the Lord was seen as he and Carol participated in the Holy Hour program at St. Augustine.  In his retirement he also volunteered at Barberton Summa Hospital delivering mail for them.
