Richard C. Hemphill

COPLEY TWP.---Richard C. Hemphill, 87, passed away after an extended period of declining health on January 10, 2018. Richard was born January 4, 1931 and was a life resident of Copley Twp. He was employed by the Copley-Fairlawn Board of Education for 42 years and retired as the maintenance supervisor at the high school. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors and especially loved planting and harvesting the fields on his family farm for over 8 decades. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Norton and the Farm Bureau.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Shank); and parents Walter “Pete” and Helen; Richard is survived by his son Charles (Sharon); daughter Karen Hemphill; grandchildren Gregory (Nicole) Hemphill, Matthew Hemphill and Teresa (Ryan) Russ; great-grandchildren Madyson, Brayden, Isabelle and Joshua; brother-in-law Joseph Dentler; sister-in-law Jean Funk; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the nurses of VNS Hospice of Akron General.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3281 Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Norton. Funeral Service to follow at 12 P.M.
