Rita E. Buchanan

BARBERTON--Rita E. Buchanan, 90, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2014 at The Inn at Coal Ridge in Wadsworth.


Rita was born in Cuyahoga Falls and was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School Class of 1942. She was a Barberton resident most of her life and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where she was active in the Holy Hour Program, Soup Kitchen, Funeral Luncheon's, Eucharistic Minister and Altar Server. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Summit County Board of Elections as a poll booth worker and knitting baby bonnets for Barberton Citizens Hospital. Rita was a very talented seamstress, baker, crafter and avid sports fan. More recently she was a member of the Wadsworth Women's Club and the Altar and Rosary Society at Scared Heart Catholic Church.


Preceded in death by her husband Robert; twin sister Freda Dannemiller; grandson William Buchanan Jr.; and brothers Andrew and Ray Walch; Survivors include her children Thomas J. (Deborah), Patricia Haskins, Paula (Robin) Adair, Janet (Jim) Hedrick and William A.; grandchildren Thomas (Ashley) Haskins, Nicole (Matt) Meyer, Anne Adair, Elizabeth (Matt) Torres, Jill Buchanan, Kimberly Haskins, Katie Hedrick and Brett and Bryan Buchanan; great-grandchildren Logan Buchanan, Hunter Adair, Liam Robert and Declan Haskins; daughter-in-law Teresa Buchanan; brother Robert Walch; and sister Polly Boley.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, where prayers will be said Friday morning at 9:30 A.M. Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Endowment Trust Fund.
