Robert Joseph DeVore, Chicken Bob, 86, passed away on Saturday October 26, 2024. He owned and operated the family restaurant DeVore’s Hopocan Gardens for 65 years. Veteran of the Army. Past president of the Akron Area Restaurant Association, Board of Director for the Ohio State Restaurant Association, one of the founders of the Barberton Tavern owner Association. Waikiki, Hawaii will miss one of their favorite people. Wintering there for 35 years he became a fixture on the beach. He was as popular at Duke’s, Kelly O’Neil’s and the Sand Villa as he was in Barberton. He was just “Chicken” in Hawaii. Many repeat visitors from around the world were as excited to see him as much as to see the islands.
Preceded in death by his father William, Mother Helen, brother Billy and his best friend William Rothermel. He is survived by his friend Jerry Young who took him out for weekly day trips, and drove him to many, many VA appointments. His loving Life Partner Sarah Lecon, sons David (Lynne) and Brian (Carol). Grandchildren Andrew, Ellen, Stacy (Patrick), Shawna (Brad) and Cyndi. Great Grandchildren Madison (Paul), Carson (Dylan), Emma, Chloe, Gracie, Faith, Connor, Preston and Rylan. Great-Great Grandchildren, Knox, Crew and Hudson. He never met a person he didn’t like. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life.
Bob's Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Brian Canale officiating. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling Hours from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday before the service.
