Robert J. Luxeder

BARBERTON---Robert J. Luxeder, 77, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on October 21, 2014. Bob was born in Akron and had been a Barberton resident most of his life. He retired from the City of Barberton Police Department after 28 years as a patrolman. He attended St. Mary's School in Akron for 12 years. Bob was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police and a past Vice President of the Ohio Labor Council. He was also a past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus Council 1617. Bob also boasted to be the second best euchre player in Barberton (when asked who was the best, he said he hadn't met them yet !) Preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Mary; and brother Anthony; Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Jean; children Martin (Cheryl), Cynthia (John) Cook, Margaret (Ben) Reihl, Robert (Kimberly) and Mary Elizabeth (Glenn) Beekman; Ten grandchildren; One great-grandchild; brothers Richard (Barbara) and Thomas (Johnette); sisters Joan (Bill) Hodson and Betty (John) Haugen; and sister-in-law Alice (Jim) Robb. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Summa Hospice for their loving care, genuine concern and constant support during this difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204-6th St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Friday from 4-8 P.M. with Rosary at 7:30 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Where prayers Saturday at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Endowment Trust Fund or Summa Hospice.
