NORTON---Robert “Bob” T. Okolish passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022. Robert was born on February 7, 1933 in Barberton, Ohio and later moved to Norton, where he shared a gentleman’s farm with his wife and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Jennie Okolish (née Koren); his brothers, Tony, Frank, Joseph, and Thomas. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Kathleen Ruth Okolish (née Nagle); his sister, Margaret Naizer; his children Robert (Marilyn) Stump, Dave Stump, Theresa Okolish, Marty (Donna) Okolish, Regina (Ben) Bartram, Ruth (Kris) Klee, and Joseph A. Okolish. Robert was a cherished grandpa to 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. Robert served in the United States Marine Corp, earning the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War. Robert graduated from the University of Akron and went on to teach math for the Akron Public School System. He was especially proud of coaching the chess team at Kenmore High School. Robert was very active his whole life. He refereed amateur, high school, and collegiate soccer games in the area for many years. He was also an Adirondack 46er, summiting all 46 high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. He shared his love for hiking with his children and grandchildren. Robert was also a devoted member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. There he was an altar server, choir member, and fish fry volunteer. He honored his Slovenian heritage by being a dedicated member of Slovene Center in Barberton, where he provided years of various services. Robert especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the Friday night bowling league, where he once bowled a perfect game. In his retirement, he enjoyed family dinners, afternoon naps, ice cream, playing cards, old movies, and his beloved dog, Sweetie. Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Calling Hours Friday, February 4th from 4-7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Private burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Church.
