Shirley J. Dobbins, (nee Lantz), 78, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at Pleasant View Health Care Center where she had been a resident since March. Shirley was born on June 7, 1946, in Lodi, Ohio and was often referred to as “Sunshine.” She was a homemaker, raising her two children in Canal Fulton, Ohio before taking a teller position with First National Bank in Norton. She later retired from First Merit Bank. In her retirement, Shirley enjoyed feeding the birds. With feeders outside her kitchen window, she watched a variety of birds visit her yard. Bluebirds were always her favorite and it brought her great joy when she spotted them. She continued this love when she lived at the nursing home requesting the birds still get fed outside her window. For many years her weekends during the winter were spent cheering on her grandsons at their wrestling matches and in the summer on the ball fields. She also had the opportunity to follow her granddaughter on the golf course. Shirley was crafty and creative and often came up with unique ideas. When she and husband Don participated in water aerobics classes at the YMCA she would make colorful (and waterproof) visors for anyone celebrating their birthday. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Louise Lantz; and infant sister, Janet; She will be missed by her husband of almost 60 years, Donald; daughter Michelle (Bruce) Sundheimer; son, Donnie (Maria) Dobbins; grandchildren, Jeff (Dawn), Brandon (Natalie) and Trent (Morgan) Wilhelm, Matthew and Ava Dobbins; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Annetta Lantz; brother-in-law, Guy (Cindy) Dobbins; special cousin-in-law, Kim Trachsel; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Elara Caring as well as the staff of Pleasant View Health Care Center for their care of and compassion. Per her wishes, Cremation has taken place.
