Susan K. (Linn) Swaney

Susan K. Swaney, 75, passed away May 3, 2023 after one last battle with cancer.  A loving wife, fantastic mother, and caring sister, aunt, friend and teacher, no one walked away from her without a smile on their face and a song in their heart.  Born in Akron, OH, Sue was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and the University of Akron.  Sue was a loyal employee of McKim Technical Institute, First Benefits Inc. and, finally, the Catholic School System at St. Matthew’s as a substitute teacher and after-school coordinator.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Ray A. Swaney; parents Charles and Mary Linn; brother and sister-in-law Richard B. and Narita Linn; and mother-in-law Helen K. Swaney.  Sue is survived by daughters Doreen Jeffers and Helen (Brian) Gray; 3 grandchildren, Brettina, Ariel and Adam Jeffers; brothers, James C. and Michael T. Linn; aunt Margie Sabo; in-laws Bill and Alice Montgomery and Kathy Linn; special friends Marty Lund and Barbara Starcher; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; her dog Gigi and cats Pepper, Nico, Trouble and Dorian.  Special thanks to Kathy and Mary Linn for the loving care in Susie’s final weeks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton. Calling Hours Monday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:30. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home. Burial will be Thursday, May 11 at 10:45 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH.  Sue will be laid to rest next to her Ray. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Cancer Society, St. Jude’s or your favorite charity in Sue’s honor.
