NEW FRANKLIN---Theodore "Ted" J. Sherman, 78, passed away December 19, 2011 at Akron General Medical Center. Born in Barberton, he had been an area resident all his life where he retired from Seiberling Tire and Rubber Co. and also owned and operated several beauty salons in the Akron area. Ted was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Akron, Barberton Moose Lodge #759 and Slovak Catholic Sokol. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and made several pilgrimages later in life. He was also a proud Air Force Veteran serving as a jet mechanic during the Korean War. Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Judith A.; sister Saundra Schuster; and son-in-law Rick Popa; Survivors include his daughters Lisa Popa and Susan Melvin; sons Ted, Michael and Andy; grandchildren Robert, Andrea and Jackie Gill and Jacob and Rachel Popa; and great-granddaughter Isabella. Requiem High Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2935 Chenoweth Rd., Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery where Wadsworth VFW Post 1089 and American Legion Post 170 will conduct Military Honors. Calling Hours Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Rosary at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
