BARBERTON---Thomas Link, 86, passed away January 20, 2014.
Born in Forest City PA, Thomas spent most of his life in Barberton. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany as part of the Marshall Plan. After his discharge from the army, he had various jobs, including being a tire builder for Seiberling Tires. His true talent and passion eventually led him to a career of restoring antique cars. Thomas was exceptional at his craft and respected in his field - one of the cars he restored was named Best of Show at the Concors d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California.
Tom was a member of the Antique Automobile Club, the Model A Club and an honorary member of the Rubber Capital Harmonica Club. A perfect day for Tom would be a long drive into Amish country in pursuit of the tastiest Amish-cooked meal with "Ace" right beside him in the passenger seat.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Frances. The one comfort the family takes during this difficult time is knowing that they are now together again. Thomas is survived by his six children, Marianne (Mike) Curry; Thomas (Denise) Link; Linda (Paul) Doerr; Jeanne (John) Huryn; Carol Link; and Holly (Mark) Van Gilder. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Christopher Link, Paul Link, Michael Curry, Sean Curry, John Huryn, Grace Huryn, Adrianna Griffith, Michael Griffith, Daniel Griffith, Amanda Van Gilder and Erin Van Gilder. Thomas also leaves behind two great-granddaughters, Ella and Lilly and sister-in-law Mary Zupic.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 1263 Shannon Avenue, Norton. Calling hours TODAY from 4-7 P.M. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
