Thomas C. Macko

Thomas Cyprian Macko passed away April 19, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

Born December 11, 1945, in Summit County, he had been a lifelong resident of the Barberton-Norton area. Tom was a 1963 graduate of Barberton High School and the Barberton Technology School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant. His last assignment was working with the Pershing Missile System. He worked for several companies during his career before finally retiring. Tom was also a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

Tom enjoyed supporting his sons’ school activities. He was proud when his eldest son, Cy, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his other son, Sol, graduated from Purdue.

Tom was a supporter of the Norton Band Boosters, often helping at their home games. He currently was a member of the Akron Derbytown Chorus, a men’s chorus that performs barbershop harmony songs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyprian and Josephine (nee Lukas) Macko, and his eldest son Cy Macko. Survivors include his wife of 52 years Martha Macko, son Sol Macko (Shelly), daughter-in-law Tina Macko, grandchildren Michela, Colby and Sean: and many other relatives and friends on both the Macko and Zipay sides of the families.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5451 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Norton. Pastors Dan Esala and Joel Zipay officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 23rd from 4-7 at Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton and also on Wednesday One Hour Prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the Derbytown Chorus at Akron Chapter BHS, P.O. Box 994, 675 Parkway, Akron, Ohio 44309-9998.
