BARBERTON---Violet Mudri Sukie, 87, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2016. She has been reunited with the love of her life, Eugene J. Sukie, with whom she shared a magical union until his passing November 30, 2009. They were married 62 years, which Violet always proclaimed was not enough. She resided in Barberton most of her life, the daughter of Walter and Julie Mudri. Her father was the owner of Mudri Motors, the first Datsun dealership in Ohio. After graduating from Barberton High School in June 1946, she worked at Yoder Brothers. Family lore is that upon Eugene’s return to Barberton after his interment in a POW camp during WWII he saw a beautiful girl walking down the street. This caused him to exclaim to the taxi driver, “I’m going to marry that girl!” not realizing his next door neighbor had grown up while he was away. On June 7, 1947, they married and after a honeymoon in Washington DC, Eugene and Violet settled in Barberton. Judith, Janis, Jayne and Jacquelyn were her “four girls”. Always proud of her home and taking care of her family, Violet was a school room mother. This was quite a feat as she never had a driver’s license! To make sure her family had the cleanest clothes possible, Violet used a wringer washer. Their charmed life continued into 2004, when Eugene’s collection of a million pennies received national attention. They were parishioners of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church where Violet was member of the Altar Society. In addition to Eugene, she was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Julia Mudri; brother Walter Junior Mudri; and sister Sally Mudri Pramik. Left to mourn her passing are daughters Judith Ann Meeks (William), Janis Lynn Dowdell (Robert), Jayne Marie Davis (Jeffrey) and Jacquelyn Jean Sukie (Thomas Davis); grandchildren Jennifer Koppelman (Rick), W. Joseph Meeks, Jefferson Davis, Michele Davis, Eugene Dowdell and Tyler Dowdell. Violet was the proud great-grandmother of 4; William, Rebecca, Michael and Camryn. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Joseph Sukie (Norma, deceased) and Louis Sukie (Donna), Ragaji cousins: Nick, Karen, Denise, John and Susan, and her mother’s youngest sister, Aunt Irena of Lebane, Serbia. The family would also like to thank Dr. Andrews and his team at the Akron Children’s Hospital burn unit for the special care they gave our mother in her final days. To honor Violet, make a batch of your favorite brownies and enjoy them with a diet Coke. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 1051 E. Robinson Ave., Barberton, where the body will lie in state One Hour Prior. Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Clinton. Calling Hours Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. followed by a Parastas Service at 7 P.M. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.
