BARBERTON---William R. Floyd, age 90, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.


Born in Cuyahoga Falls, he moved to Barberton with his parents in 1936 where he remained a lifelong resident. He graduated from BHS in June 1941, and from Akron U in June 1949 with his BS in BA. He was active in the Barberton Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1951-1956, serving as president in 1955 and was recognized as their "Outstanding Man of the Year".


Preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Mary Floyd, brother James, and his beloved wife Joan (Stocker), he is survived by his three children, Michael (Denise) of Salesville, Gary (Doris) Floyd of Barberton, Kathi (Jim) Keifer of McAlisterville, PA, and his six grandchildren, Erin (Floyd) Sinsley and David Floyd, Benjamin Keifer, Alisha, Shannon, and Gary Floyd, and six great grandchildren, Owen, Claire, Rowan, Justin, Alex, and Nathan. He is also survived by a large and extended family of brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, friends, and business associates with whom he often shared his many loving and happy memories.


Bill Floyd's long career in the tire industry was spent with Seiberling Tire, Polson Rubber Co, and as Executive Director of the OTDRA. He proudly served his country in the U.S.Army during World War II as a staff sergeant in Europe. He was a devoted and faithful Christian and active member of both the First Baptist and Covenant Baptist churches.


The family will receive friends at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton on Sunday, March 16th from 1-3pm concluding with a memorial service at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Mike Prebynski. Per his wishes, a private burial will be held at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
