William A. Stopar, Sr

William A. Stopar, Sr. (Bill), of Norton, Ohio, passed away on November 25, 2012. He was born on December 19th, 1926 in Barberton to Frances (Poje) and John Stopar. A graduate of Barberton High School, Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Seiberling Tire in Barberton after 30 years of service where he was also on the Board of Directors for the Seiberling Rubber Employees Federal Credit Union. He also worked for the Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, retiring in 1991. He was an active life-long parishioner of Prince of Peace (formerly known as Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Barberton. He was a member of KSKJ Lodge #110, Domovina Lodge, Knights of Columbus #14111, Homeland Booster Club, and Slovene Pensioners. He was proud of his Slovenian Heritage and he enjoyed spending time with his family, attending polka dances, bowling at Slovene Center and watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William A. Stopar, Jr. (Billy); Brothers John and Joe Stopar; and sister, Anne Hornyak. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Wilma (Kechkes) Stopar; his children Rick (Becky), Gary (Monica) of Acworth, Georgia, Cheryl (Michael) Tokes, and Jeff (Jennifer) of Perrysburg, OH; his daughter-in-law, Diane (Struckel) Stopar; his grandchildren Travis, Trisha, Ricky, Haley, Beth, Danny, Troy, Angela, Matt, Lauren, Justin, Brooke, and Addi.; Sister-in-law, Frances Stopar; Brother-in-law, Ted Hornyak; Brother and Sister-in-law George and Eleanor Kechkes, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton, Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery. Calling hours Friday, November 30, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton where prayers will be said Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
