Barberton

TOGETHER AGAIN

Wilma Jean Schmitt (née White), of Barberton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. For six years, she faced her illness with remarkable determination, grace, and quiet strength, inspiring everyone who knew and loved her.

After patiently waiting, she is finally reunited with the love of her life, her husband of forty-three years, John "Jack" W. Schmitt Jr.

Wilma was born on August 10, 1946, in Morgantown, West Virginia. She was the only child of the late Herbert White and Ruby White (nee Stevens). She graduated from Ballou High School in Washington, D.C, Class of 1964. Wilma enjoyed a diverse professional career and retired at the age of seventy.

What Wilma loved most was spending time with her family, especially when all her children were together on Sunday afternoons, talking, laughing, and watching football. She enjoyed the many adventures that Jack would drag her on, though usually only after they finally reached their destination.

An avid reader and book collector, Wilma loved crime and game shows, enjoyed learning how things worked, from computers to cars, and appreciated R&B, Soul, and Motown music. There were so many wonderful things about Wilma that simply cannot be put into words. Her curiosity, wisdom, sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always.

Wilma is survived by her children, Elizabeth Marquez, James Marquez and his wife, Sandy Marquez, Ricardo Marquez, and David Schmitt and his wife, Rachael Schmitt; her grandchildren, Jacob Marquez, Lucas Garrett, Benjamin Marquez and his wife, Hailey Marquez, Kelsey Garrett, Lindsey Marquez, Abigail Marquez, Ryley Schmitt, Andrew Schmitt, Owen Marquez, Alexandria Brewer and her husband, Joe Brewer, Anastasia Fitzsimmons, and Arizona Fitzsimmons; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Phoenix, Porter, and Pierce.

In accordance with Wilma's wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home. A private burial for Wilma and Jack, with military honors, will be held at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.

Together again, forever loved, forever missed.
