BARBERTON---Edward J. Hanic, 95, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2021. Ed was born in Barberton where he was a life resident and the owner of Hanic's Café for 75 years. He was a proud Marine Corp Veteran having served in WWII and was a member of the former Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Ed was an aviator, owning multiple airplanes and enjoyed flying. He was a legend to all who knew and loved him in the Barberton Community. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia; and son Michael; He is survived by his son Ed (Donna); daughter Trish Jackson; grandchildren Amanda (Joe) Martucci, Chris (Kevie) Simon, Elise (Tony) Naso, Ed Jr. (Marina) Hanic and Ben (Elena) Hanic; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Joan Whitaker; and cousin Kathy Birli-Green. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. Social Distancing and masks required. Private Funeral Service and burial on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton, OH 44203.
