Emily Jeanette Meckes passed peacefully from this earthly life and into the arms of her Loving Savior on Wednesday, Jan 11, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.
Emily was born July 23, 1939 in Connellsville, PA. She graduated from Connellsville High School in 1957. She moved to Akron OH in 1962 and worked for Goodyear Aerospace and retired from Ohio Bureau of Employment Services after 31 years of service. She was a very active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, providing communion to homebound parishioners, and was a member of the Women of Faith group. Emily was an extremely active citizen of Barberton. She belonged to the Barberton Active Adult Center, The Slovene Center, Slovene Pensioners, Barberton Moose, VFW #1066, Hibernians, Sokol 167, Orioles, FOP, and PERI of Summit County. Emily loved all sports - wearing Ohio State/Browns/Indians/Cavaliers/Rubber Ducks/Barberton colors on every game day. She was a portal usher at The Ohio State University, faithfully standing in her assigned spot in The Horseshoe for 14 years.
Emily was preceded into death by her parents, Thomas Acker and Anna (Love) Acker, her brother Bill Love, and her grandson Aaron Nathe. She is survived by her son, Bryan Meckes and his wife Terri, and their children David, Anna Pilar, and Adie; her daughter, Linda Nathe and her children Kyle and Melissa (Wayne) Daniel; her daughter Lisa Fagan; her brother Jerry Acker and his wife Teresa; her brother Jack and his wife June, her sister-in-law Sally Love; and so many well loved nieces, nephews, friends who became family, and everyone she met who became her friend.
The family would like to express our most heartfelt thank you to the Palliative/Hospice care staff of Akron City Hospital. Mom was treated with kindness and respect, and her comfort was their top priority.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Norton. Fr. Robert Jackson celebrant. Burial at Greenridge Memorial Park in Connellsville, PA. at a later date. Calling Hours Monday January 16th from 4-7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. . In honor of Mom, we ask friends and family to wear either Ohio State or Barberton colors to the visitation.
