Ethel L. Baker

Ethel Baker, 87, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2021 at The Village of St. Edward Hospice Center in Fairlawn.

She had been a resident of The Village of St. Edward-Wadsworth for the past two years. Ethel was born in Akron on August 29, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Baker. She received her RN degree from St. Thomas School of Nursing and was a surgical nurse for over 40 years at both St. Thomas Hospital and Barberton Citizens Hospital. Ethel enjoyed traveling and after graduation she was off to California for several months. Her travels took her to places including Hawaii and the Caribbean but she most especially enjoyed her trip to Europe with her mother, to meet her many relatives.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Baker, brother and sister-in-law John and Shirley Baker, sister and brother-in-law Amelia and Philip Durosko, and brother-in-law Jude Eberhardt. She is survived by her sister Elaine Eberhardt, brother Edward (Marcille) Baker, sister-in-law Charma Baker and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Miss Kitty.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Memory Care staff of The Village of St. Edward-Wadsworth and the staff at The Village of St. Edward Hospice Center for their kind and loving care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd. Norton. Fr. Louis Thomas, celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours ONE HOUR PRIOR to the mass AT THE CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ethel’s memory to The Village of St. Edward.
