He spent numerous years coaching, teaching, and mentoring in the school districts of Rittman, Lake, Medina Highland, Stow, North Canton, and Jackson. The friendships he made in this journey are beyond measure.  The young lives he nurtured have not gone unnoticed. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Sandy (Butler) of 52 years; his four children Jeff (Dana), Janee Oktela (Tony), and twins Jeremy (Sara) and Jonathan; and his 8 beautiful grandchildren: Avery, Alex, and Libby Travis; Maverick, Maxton, and Myles Oktela; and Alexa and Aedan Travis.  He is also survived by his sister Dinah, brothers Frank (Carol), David (Joyce), sister-in-law Saralyn Butler, brother-in-law Jim Hood, and step-sister, Sandy Welch. Homer is preceded in death by his grandparents Icy and Homer Jones, his parents Nancy and Frank Travis, his mother and father-in-law Barbara and Robert Sauer, father-in-law Max Butler, sister and brother-in-law Jessie and Ron Brown, brothers-in-law Tom Weyand, Steve Butler, Dennis Welch, and sister-in-law Susan Hood. Homer enjoyed spending his time researching family history as well as the Civil War.  He loved making connections with relatives in Big Bend and Granstville, WV. Besides vacationing, boating and family events, his greatest joy were his 8 grandchildren. He tried to attend as many of their activities as possible. He loved supporting them at numerous sporting events, including baseball, lacrosse, basketball, football, and soccer games, cheering for his football cheerleaders, and listening to many musical performances.  He was their biggest fan! He was loved by so many family members from near and far and friends, neighbors, and colleagues along the way.
