Jack W. Bell

BARBERTON---Jack W. Bell, 87, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2021.  Born in Barberton on April 6, 1934, to Wallace and Laverna Bell, he was a life-long resident of Barberton.

Employed by the City of Barberton for 37 years, he retired in 1994, after serving as City Surveyor, Street Superintendent, and Special Projects Manager.  Jack also served as an AFSCME Ohio Council 8 Trustee and a member of the Board of Barberton Citizens Hospital.

Jack attended Barberton High School, continuing his education at Ohio University, where he met his wife Shirley (Mann) Bell. He was a member of the 1953 Ohio University Bobcats Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship football team and was a charter member of the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame.  Jack was a devoted Magics sports fan and was a fixture at basketball and football games. Jack also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, sharing a good Scotch with friends, and spending time with his daughters and granddaughters, supporting endless soccer, basketball, volleyball, and softball games. He was an avid woodworker and created numerous cherished projects for family members.

Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters Sherry (John) McCullough and Robin Bell; granddaughters Kelly (Sanders DeNardi) McCullough, Kendra McCullough, Hannah (Thomas Kalista) Fish, and Emma Fish; as well as 8 granddogs. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kim.

At Jack’s request, there will be no funeral services.  A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the First Hungarian Benefit Society in Barberton on January 15, 2022, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Barberton Community Ministries (BACM) at 939 Norton Ave, Barberton, Ohio 44203, or the Barberton All Sports Booster Club at Barberton Boosters Club c/o Barberton High School, 555 Barber Rd, Barberton, Ohio 44203.
