Jay R. Mitzel

Jay Mitzel 67, passed away with his family at his side on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Rd. He lived in the Akron and Sharon Township area all his life. He was in the first graduating class at Walsh Jesuit High School. He graduated from The University of Akron where he received his BA in Psychology and then attended Ashland University where he received his MBA. Jay was employed by several hospital systems in Ravenna, Mansfield, Akron and Cincinnati of which he received several awards for his work in health care supply chain. He was an advocate for persons with special needs and served on the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Autism Society Board, and the Board for Society for Handicapped Citizens of Medina County. He also was on the Parish Council at St. Bernard Catholic Church for a short period of time.

Jay is survived by his wife Sue of 41 years, and his pride and joy, son Matthew Mitzel, daughter Sara (Mitzel) Adams, and son-in law Andrew Adams. He is also survived by his sister Sally (Mitzel) Atwood, and brother and sister-in-laws; Mark Atwood, Annette (Sues) Mitzel, Patricia (Russ) O’Neill, Nancy Roth, John (Barb) Roth, David Roth, Janet (John) Raber, Jeanne (John) Hite, Joan (Joe) Minder and many loving nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly along with many friends he had the pleasure of working with, and friends throughout the community. Jay was preceded in death by mother and father Robert and Gertrude Mitzel, mother and father in-law Genevieve and Joseph Roth, brother Robert Mitzel, brother in-law Richard Roth and sister in-law Dorothy Roth. He lived his life to the fullest and his generosity, sense of humor and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West., Barberton on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 5 to 8PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 44 University Ave., Akron on Thursday August 16, 2018 at 10AM with Fr. Thomas McCann celebrant. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
