BARBERTON---Jimmie Holmes, 83, passed away on December 17th. He grew up in Alabama, and had made the Barberton area his home since he was a teenager.
He was the classic “nice guy”, lived from a place of generosity, and told everyone he knew about his faith in Christ. He was a very hard worker, and wouldn’t retire until he was well into his 70s. His favorite activities included taking care of his family, playing with his cats (that he never would admit his affection for), and eating as much spicy food and pizza as possible. You could often find him out on a walk in the neighborhood, waving to friends and strangers alike. His favorite song was “I Can Only Imagine”, and it comforts his family to know that he no longer has to imagine what heaven is like, and that he is actually breathing Heavenly air.
He is survived by his wife Theresa of 36 years. Their deep connection and selfless love for each other was an inspiration to many.
He raised three wonderful children, leaving them his strong work ethic, love of family, and spirit of generosity: Celeste(Richard) Korenz of Uniontown, Joseph(Samantha) of Columbus, Salena(Eli) Donahue of Brooklyn, NY. He also is survived by granddaughter Calista(Derrick) Edinger, granddaughter Kate(Tyler) Immel, and great-grandson Liam.
He leaves behind his brother Frank(Darlene) Holmes and extended family: sister-in-law Patty(Jim) Dyer, brothers-in-law Larry Gradisher, Ted(Christine) Gradisher, and his Barberton Grace Church family.
A memorial will be planned at a later date, when gathering can be safely held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the children’s ministry at Grace Church Barberton, via www.gracechurches.org. To share a memory or send a condolence, please visit www.silva-hostetler.com
