WADSWORTH---John A. Cusher passed away on January 7, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Cusher. John was born in Barberton, Ohio, November 20, 1942. He graduated from Barberton High School in 1961, from Bowling Green State University in 1966 with a BS in Education and from The College of Wooster in 1973 with a MAT degree. John taught at Liberty Center High School in Liberty Center, Ohio for 33 years. During that time he served as the school’s athletic director, assistant football coach, girls JV basketball coach and boys head track coach. John’s 1998 track team won the Division III state championship and the following year his team won state runner up. John spent over 40 years as a track and field official for the state of Ohio and worked the state track and cross country tournaments on several occasions.
John is survived by his cousins Fran (Bill) Lessiter; Michelle (Alan) Fox and their children Jordan (Mitch) Savel and their daughters Anna and Ellie, Heather (Peter) Gassman; Mike (Heather) Lessiter and their children Steven and Mathew; Donald (Melinda) Lessiter and their son Nicholas. Surviving others include relatives Becky and Ed Perry; Terri and Boyd Nieman and close friends Allen Huelskamp and John and Peggy Myles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW, Barberton. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.
