John Stephen “Jack” Hornacek, 82, of Barberton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023. He was born in Barberton, Ohio, on December 24, 1940, to the late John J. and Anne (Strazan) Hornacek. John graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1958 and went on to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to become a journeyman electrician. During his career, he was an active member of the executive board and notably spent a year in Alaska during the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. He was committed and proud of his 64-year membership to IBEW Local #306. John was an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church serving as a lecture, usher, Eucharistic minister, alter server and a member of the parish council. He was a lifetime member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol Assembly #167 serving as the Financial Secretary and presented the Fraternal Frank Petroff award. He loved golf, model railroading, cruising the Caribbean and vacations in Myrtle Beach. He is survived by his wife Mary J. (Hirschfelt) of 32 years, his children John (Michelle), Scott (Donna), Brian (Cynthia), Aimee (Mark) Jung, Adam (Tara) Kearns, David (Chelsea) Kearns, his grandchildren Andrew, Madeline, and Abigail Hornacek, Brooke and Noah Jung, Conner and Landon Hornacek, Cayson Kearns, brothers James and Stephen, brothers- and sisters-in-law Tina Hornacek, Joe (Cathy) Hirschfelt, Paul (LaDonna) Hirschfelt, and Joan (Jim) Dzuris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Lawrence, sisters-in-law Kristine and Darlene, father- and mother-in-law Joseph (Mary) Hirschfelt. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at Silva-Hostetler Funeral Home, 1199 Wooster Rd. W., Barberton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday morning at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 44 University Ave, Akron, with internment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E.
