Karl Papp, age 95, was a life-long resident of Barberton, born to John and Mary Papp (Bagacs).
Preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita Claire (Walley) Papp, sister Elizabeth Papp, brothers Joe (Lucille) Papp, Bill (Dorothy, Sarah) Papp, John (Margie) Papp, nephew Bobby (Vera) Papp, and granddaughter Heather Marie Papp.
Karl was drafted into the Army in 1945, serving as an Army paymaster during WWII. He was stationed in Manilla of the Philippines, after which he studied art at the Ray Vogue School of Design in Chicago, Illinois. During his time in Chicago, he worked at the Board of Trade and tended bar at the Union League Club. It was in Chicago where he met his wife of 36 years, Rita, moving back to Barberton to raise their son Karl A. (Deborah) Papp and daughter Catherine (Steve) Kasza.
Karl worked for Profit Foods Vending Company while working weekends as a bartender at Anthe’s restaurants and many local country clubs. He was an avid gardener, taking great pride in his garden and his green thumb. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1617, Barberton Elks and was a long-time member of the United Fellowship Club.
He is survived by his son Karl A. “Kap” (Deborah) Papp and daughter Catherine (Steve) Kasza; grandchildren, Adam (Ashley) Papp, Stephanie Kasza, Anthony Kasza, and Holly (Cameron) Flack; great grandchildren Hailey, Allie, Adam, Briella, Alex, Olivia, Evan, Callie & Kennedy; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Karl will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors, but we take comfort in knowing he is finally at peace with our Lord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling Hours Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
