Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marine J. Cornachione, 89, announce his sudden passing on Sunday, December 13, 2020 after a short illness from Covid -- he gave it a good fight!  He was born on February 25, 1931 in Barberton to the late Giovanna and Dominic Cornacchione.  He was preceded in death by his sister Angeline (Ziggy) Plucinski.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years Janet (McDonald) his high school sweetheart.  He was a generous and kind father to daughters Jill (Don) Fulkerson and Joy (Don) Koncz.  He enjoyed his grandchildren, Kyle Fulkerson, Kelly (Mitch) Porta, Ryan Fulkerson, Kevin Fulkerson, Carly (Bo) Whetsell, and Celina Koncz.  He will be sadly missed by brother John (Pam) Ciarlariello, sister-in-law Janice (Ted) Rafeld, his brother-in-law Dirk (Mary Ellen) McDonald, Amy (Hummel) and Bruce Bernhardt, his forever friend Bob (Marlene) Myers, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Marine graduated from Barberton High School Class of 1949.  He attended John Carroll University, University of Detroit, and earned his degree in Architecture at Kent State University.  He served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corp at Fort Eustis, VA and retired as Captain.  On his 25th wedding anniversary, he opened his own architectural firm in Barberton and did what he loved for a total of 60 plus years.

Marine was a good and faithful servant. He ushered at St. Augustine for more than 25 years and served on the Finance Board and Maintenance Committee.  He was an enthusiastic Cursillistas (De Colores).  Later, he became a member of Prince of Peace parish.  He was very involved with International Rotary Club, serving as President and Secretary/Treasurer for many years; earned the “Man of the Year Award” and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

For years, he was a 4-H Advisor for the B-C Wranglers Horse Club and a member of the Summit County Fairboard.  Marine enjoyed his farm, family vacations in HHI, Maui, enjoyed dancing (with Slovene gang), following his grandchidren’s sports in football, soccer, and basketball C.Y.O. thru college, playing cards, casino trips, corn roasts, stain glass, painting, and puzzles.

Thank you to his caretakers – Martha, Cole and Cameryn for their tender care.  Extreme gratitude to Summa Barberton Hospital ICU doctors and nurses who were so attentive, concerned and understanding.
