Mario Zadra Obituary

BARBERTON - Mario D. Zadra, (94), a Barberton resident passed away June 2, 2021. He was born September 29, 1926 in Ironwood Michigan to the late Daniel and Emma Zadra. Preceded in death by his lovely wife of 45 years Dorothea, Daughter; Mary Beth (Mark) Rittenhour, Son in Law; Jerry A. Young and Father and Mother in Law, George & Lucille Kraemer. He is survived by his 3 children; Dennis (Charlene) Zadra, Janet (Kevin) O'Brien and Alan (Melissa) Zadra. Grandchildren; Daniel (Danielle) Zadra, Megan (Michael) Frisk, Andrew (Jessica) Rittenhour, Kevin (Rachel) Rittenhour, Ryan Young, Adam Young (Krista), Spencer Young (Morgan), Jacob Zadra, Joshua Zadra, Madison Zadra, Bella Zadra, and Chase Zadra. Great-Grandchildren; Lucas Zadra, Natalie Frisk, Landon Young, Riley Mangan and Mia Rittenhour. He graduated from AD Johnston High School in Bessemer Michigan in 1944. Entered the Navy after going to Radio and Submarine School. He served in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Cubera SS 347. Upon discharge he went to Michigan Technical University earning a BS in Chemistry in 1950 and a MS in Chemistry from the University of Akron. He was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a Research Chemist, with Multiple Patents to his name, and retired after 37 years of service. He was a past member of the American Chemical Society, active with the Holy Name Society of Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, serving as President several times.  Coached soccer and basketball in the CYO and was active with the Associates of St. Joseph at Archbishop Hoban High School. He helped operate the concession stand for the school and for CYO activities. He was a 4th degree member of The Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and wrote and published the monthly newsletter for the Barberton Council 1617. He took Pride in making his Famous Wine and took Joy in giving it as a gift to all his Friends and Family. He enjoyed woodworking making wooden gifts for family. He also took pride in attending activities of his Grandchildren which included baseball, football, basketball, wrestling, school plays and band concerts. He enjoyed Judging Science Fair Finals at Walsh High School and Kent State as a member of the ACS. He volunteered as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Server at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. He volunteered in the serving of meals at Homeless Shelters and also volunteered at the Barberton Community Pregnancy Center and So Much More. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd. Norton. Fr. James Maloney celebrant and Fr. Louis Thomas co-celebrant. Private family burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park immediately following the mass. Calling Hours will be on Wednesday June 16, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SILVA-HOSTETLER FUNERAL HOME, 1199 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton.
