BARBERTON---Robert L. Danko (93) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 21, 2021. Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of 72 years, Rosalie Danko.
Bob was born in Barberton on July 23, 1927 to Stephen and Ann Danko where he lived his entire life. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his siblings Leonard Danko, Ann Steiner, Martha Breiding, and Barbara Pramuka.
Bob graduated from Barberton High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II on the Destroyer USS Zellers. Upon return from the Navy Bob attended The Ohio State University. Bob retired from PPG Research and Development after 42 years of service with most of that time spent as a scientific glass blower. During his career he also had the opportunity to teach glass blowing skills to students at the University of Akron.
A faithful Catholic, Bob served the St. Augustine parish for many years where he was a dedicated member of the Holy Hour program for 20 years, and a member of the choir. He also served many, many years on the altar until he retired at age 90. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Elks Club, the Barberton Jaycees, and the Society of Scientific Glass.
Bob enjoyed traveling. After retirement, he and Rosalie traveled extensively and never spent another winter in Ohio again, opting instead to spend winters in the West Palm Beach, Florida area.
Bob was a loving, caring, and helpful grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jane Elizabeth Brumbach and is survived by his four sons: Dennis (Kari), Tom (Cheryl), Richard, and Jim (Wendi). Bob also leaves his grandchildren Katrina (Mark) Zepeda, Keefer (Courtney) Brumbach, Carly (Greg) McAtee, Maxwell (Shannon) Danko, Carter Danko, Hillary (Greg) Travis and Mia (Trey Tickle) Danko. Bob will be missed by the great-grandchildren he enjoyed so much: Ben, Dom, Mercedes, Auggie, and Josie Zepeda; Clementine and Harrison Brumbach; Conley and Carsyn McAtee; and Noah Travis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. NW., Barberton on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Private burial on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
