Wanda Jelus, 91, passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 26. Her family and friends could sadly not be with her in the final days, due to Covid19.
Wanda was a resident of Wadsworth, OH, where she resided with her second husband, John Jelus, a US Army WWII veteran. She has been widowed since 2003, and has been living alone since that time. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne, son-in-law, Andy, and grand-daughter, Sasha.
Wanda and John’s story reads like a movie: they first met when the US forces liberated oc-cupied Czechoslovakia, in 1945 (Wanda was born in Bratislava). Many years later, after his divorce, John wrote a letter to Wanda at an old address he still had. This letter managed to make its way all the way to England, where Wanda now resided and worked. Wanda’s first marriage also ended in divorce, and so it was that she eventually met up with John again, while in the US on a business trip. John and Wanda were married in 1978.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
