Mr Mikan was a great teacher. Both of our kids took music lessons from him and I always enjoyed talking jazz with him He was a graduate of The Berklee School of Music and had seen many of Giants of Jazz! He was a kind gentleman who could play! God Bless his family.

Dear Fran,
I am so sorry to hear about George. When he came to St. A's we would reminisce about our C&M days, especially our music lessons with Mr. Kubanis. I had the privilege of teaching Doug, Carol, and Jonathan. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless and console you and your family.

We are sorry for your loss, but we know that Mr. Mikan is in a much better place. He expressed his love of God whenever we encountered him. He was always uplifting and a very positive man. We loved his posters at his office! He helped Ezra discover his musical talents and was very instrumental in getting him accepted in both Miller South and Firestone High School. He had faith when we were lacking. It was an honor and a blessing to have known such a man of great Godly character. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

An ELEGANCE AND SIMPLICITY STANDING SPRAY was ordered on July 18, 2016

Message from Lou Basile

I was sad to hear of the passing of George. I first met George as a classmate and fellow band member at Hoban High School in the early 60's. We remained good friends throughout our four years together. I especially remember the great times we shared performing in the Hoban Stage (jazz) band. George had a super sense of humor. We thrived on "messing" with each other on a daily basis. As a fellow music educator, I have always held the highest respect for his musical abilities and career accomplishments. I know he will be missed by his many students, family and friends. I'm pretty sure he will be moving on t0 his next "band directing gig" in the world beyond.
Sincerely,
Lou (Alice) Basile

Our hearts go out to the family of Mr. Mikan, what a talented and giving person he was. My family has enjoyed years of piano lessons and band experience/mentorship by Mr. Mikan. He truly had the gift of music to share with each child. The students of St. Sebastian and their families were all touched by George Mikan and his love of music and we'll never forget him! From the first band meeting and "let's meet the band" to trying different instruments and getting weekly encouragement. We thank him for everything he has shared with us and pray for him and his family.
