Welcome to the memorial page for

Lacy L. Jamison Jr.

May 17, 1927 ~ August 21, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Lacy L. Jamison, Jr., 89, passed away August 21, 2016.  He was born in Cunard, West Virginia on May 17, 1927.  He is preceded in death by parents Rose and Lacy Sr., brother Harold, sister Margie, and infant son Stephen.  Lacy is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty, sons Mark and Brian, son-in-law Greg, daughter-in-law Susan, grandson Paul, granddaughter Sondra, sisters Doris Francis and Lois Burgess, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lacy loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially on New River in West Virginia.  He served in the army at the end of World War II and was part of the detail that catalogued Emperor Hirohito’s possessions in Japan.  He moved to Barberton with his wife and two young sons in 1968 and lived on the West Side for the rest of his life.  He retired as a machinist from Ken Tool in 1993.  His stories were rich and epic and (often unintentionally) hilarious.  Kids and adults loved his tales of fishing and squirrel hunting, catching groundhogs with copper wire, encountering bears and avoiding copperheads, and every dramatic moment from the life of every dog he ever owned.  Later in life, he traveled as far as Portugal, England, the Bahamas, Spain, Nova Scotia, and Morocco, rode a camel in the Sahara Desert, marveled at the redwoods in California, was a dedicated usher at the First Baptist Church in Barberton, and continued to fish and hunt as long as he could find someone who was able to walk as far and as fast as he could. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive guests from 11:00 A.M.  to 1:00 P.M.  on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Barberton, 256 6th St. NW., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Mike Prebynski officiating.  A Luncheon will be after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in Lacy’s name.
